Animals of North America

Welcome Song

Wesley and Henrietta
Henrietta’s basket: Buffalo Puppet
Flannel Board: Five Little Porcupines
Five pokey porcupines
Sitting in a crooked line
Soaking up the hot midday sun.
(wipe hand across forehead saying “whew!”)
One found a piney glade
Where there was lots of shade
Now there are just four porcupines
(stretch and say “aaaaahhhh”)
Four pokey porcupines…
Three pokey porcupines…
Two pokey porcupines…
One pokey porcupine…

Book: Help: The Story of Friendship
Stand-up song:  If you’re ever in the forest
(tune of Did You Ever See a Lassie?)
If you're ever in the forest,
The forest, the forest,
If you're ever in the forest,
You might see some deer.
With antlers on one;
Another might run.
If you're ever in the forest.
You might see some deer.
Additional verses:
A snake
It hides in the grass
And slithers real fast
A skunk
It’s black and white
Get out of its sight!

A raccoon
It climbs a tree
And hides from me

Rhyme time song:
Rhyme:
Whisky, frisky, hippity hop,
Up he goes to the tree top. (hand makes a spiral motion up)
Whirly, swirly, round and round,
Down he scampers to the ground. (hand makes a spiral motion down)
Book: Move over, Rover!

Grizzly bear, grizzly bear turn around…
