Flannel Board: The Veterinarian
By: Tammy Henry, March 2010
The veterinarian examined a cat
The cat snuck out and then just sat.
The veterinarian examined a dog
That dog was ready to go for a jog!
The veterinarian examined a bird
That little bird didn’t say a word.
The veterinarian examined a Mouse
Who’d want a mouse in their house?
The veterinarian examined a Goldfish
The goldfish’s tail went swish, swish, swish!
The veterinarian examined a bunny
That bunny liked to be outside when it’s sunny!
The veterinarian examined a snake
That silly snake began to shiver and shake.
The veterinarian’s day is over
Tomorrow he’ll see a lizard named Rover.

Book: The Talking Vegetables

Song: Vegetable Soup (The soup is boiling up)
Tune: The Farmer in the Dell

I use a big black Halloween cauldron for the pot and a huge wooden spoon to stir. I hand out paper cut-out vegetables to the children before the song starts and then we add the veggies as we sing. At the end of the song I pretend to blow on the soup and take a bite. I declare it's wonderful soup and ask the children if they want a "taste".

The soup is boiling up,
The soup is boiling up,
Stir slow, around we go
The soup is boiling up.

First we'll add the _________ (x2)
Stir slow, around we go
The soup is boiling up.

Nursery Rhyme/short poem: Out in my garden

Out in my garden
early in the morning
see the little vegetables all in a row
see the rows of carrots
and the rows of peas.
Water, hoe, grow, grow
In my garden please.
